Innovative Trailer Access
Loading and unloading trailers occurs every day across the JV Driver Group. Traditionally, you would require a 6 foot step ladder securely tied to the trailer, or additional manpower to hold the ladder prior to accessing the deck. The IDL team has created access steps that remove the need for a ladder and allow for safer access. This is a Great example of Thinking Different and Building better!
Typically, when accessing a trailer, without a loading dock, you would require a 6 foot step ladder securely tied to the trailer, or additional manpower to hold the ladder prior to accessing the deck. Personnel climb up the ladder parallel to the trailer, then turn and step onto the trailer deck. To eliminate this awkward movement, the IDL team has created lightweight steps for safer access. These innovative access steps hook onto the edge of the trailer with proper handles so the worker is always facing the trailer and maintains 3 point contact at all times.
The handles are designed to fold down/up and lock into place using a pin and keeper. The entire system is light enough to be easily lifted and moved by one person. The steps are compact enough to travel with the truck at all times to access different decks or portable from truck-to-truck or trailer-to-trailer.
Innovative thinking has created a great new tool that allows safe and efficient access. Thinking Different and Building Better – Great work IDL!
